GLENNON HEIGHTS MENNONITE CHURCH

MISSION STATEMENT: TO BE A FAITHFUL COMMUNITY OF JESUS CHRIST

·         By glorifying God.
·         By proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
·         By equipping ourselves for faithful discipleship.
·         By serving our local, national and international communities.
·         By providing a welcoming and nurturing haven.

VISION STATEMENT

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we envision growth; building a community of faith, which practices constructive responses to conflict; and, in a world driven by fear, promoting a Christian voice of love and nonviolence.

Core Value Statements

Biblical Preaching and Teaching

Belief Statement:
We believe in biblical preaching and teaching since the scriptures reveal God to us and challenge us to be a faithful community of Jesus Christ. (II Timothy 3:16, 17; Peter 1:19-21)

Action Statement: The Old and New Testaments are inspired by God, and we will use them as the basis for preaching and teaching and submit all other resources to their scrutiny.

Avoidance/Resistance to Conflict:  (The following statements express our desire to address conflict in healthy ways rather than by avoidance and resistance.)

Belief Statement:  We believe that when we accept conflict as inevitable and manage it in healthy ways, our congregational life will witness to God's grace among us. Ephesians 4:1-6

Action Statement: We will embrace our Communication Covenant as we learn to be more open in our communication, more loving in our relationships, more accepting of our differences, and more intentional in seeking to live in the bond of peace.

Christian Education

Belief Statement:
We believe that teaching and nurturing of children, youth, and adults in the Anabaptist faith brings them closer to a personal relatioship with Jesus Christ, and fulfills God's purposes in our lives and communities. Deuteronomy 6:5-7; II Timothy 3:14, 15

Action Statement: Through Christian Nurture and Education, we will provide an environment of love, trust, acceptance, and challenge for all persons in their spiritual journey toward Christ-likeness as they interact with each other and the world around them.

Worship/Music

Belief Statement:
We believe that as followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to be a community of faith who comes together to offer thanksgiving, worship and praise to God.  Psalm 122:1; Psalm 145:4, 7; Revelation 4:11

Action Statement:  We prayerfully and thoughtfully prepare for our times of worship in pursuit of a deeper relationship with God and with each other and joyfully tell the ongoing story of God's justice and goodness through a variety of worship experiences.

Community Life

Belief Statement:
We believe that Christ calls and empowers us to live in Christian community with one another Philippians 2:5; I Corinthians 12:25; Galatians 6:2, 20; Hebrews 10:24, 25; 13:2; Acts 2:42; Romans 15:7; 12:13; Ephesians 4:15, 16

Action Statement:  We commit to help each other experience Jesus Christ by nurturing and encouraging an environment of love, value and respect, while providing opportunities for participation, growth and challenge.
Outreach/Witness/Service

Belief Statement:
We believe God is in the process of reconciling the world through Jesus Christ (bringing all creation into right relationship with Him) and calls us to be ambassadors of His reconcilation. Isaiah 40:9, Isaiah 42:1-9; Isaiah 52:7; Micah 6:8; Matthew 6:33; Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Romans 8:19-22; IICorinthians 5:17-21; James 1:22, 27

Action Statement: We off our gifts and abilities to promote God's reconciling work through Jesus Christ in word and deed in our local, national and international communities under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  We will proclaim the Gospel (good news) of peace and righteousness to meet human spiritual and physical need, to care for creation, and to promote God's kingdom by addressing both individual and systemic sins (such as injustice, violence, racism, etc.).
